The Journey & What Sparked Commtel.
In 1985, Alan Smith (our Chairman) received a call from a client in Notting Hill. They had a private street with 72 townhouses, needed automated gates, and an intercom system, and found that the estimates were huge, complicated, and beyond their budget.

The journey of Commtel began with a simple but profound question: could existing telecommunication networks do the job instead of traditional, complex entry systems?
That question changed everything for connected entry. We quickly discovered there was nothing on the market that truly balanced affordability, simplicity, and reliability in a way that respected both the installer’s valuable time and the end user’s needs.
Driven by that insight and a commitment to solve a real-world problem, Commtel was founded in 1992. The company was created to deliver something different: intercom solutions installers could trust, built around their professional requirements.
From that moment on, every Commtel product has been a direct answer to that founding question. Our legacy is built on the belief that connection at the point of entry should be robust, reliable, and built with longevity in mind.
